Commitments
What each of those clocks actually promises.
Five business days
A real answer from somebody who has read the thing and looked into it, rather than a ticket number and a holding line. Where a question genuinely needs longer than that, you get a note inside the five days telling you so and giving you a date to expect.
Seven days for anything with video in it
Footage of a person is the most sensitive material this company will ever touch, so we delete it on a tighter clock than the statute asks for. Seven days clears the live systems. Encrypted backups age out on their ordinary rotation, which finishes inside 35 days, and nothing you deleted is ever pulled back out of one.
Thirty days
That is the window APP 12 and APP 13 give us to answer an access or a correction request, and we work inside it rather than treating it as a target to hit on the last afternoon. Confirming you are who you say you are happens within those days, not as an extra stage bolted on the front. Any refusal arrives with written reasons, the specific ground we relied on, and where you can take it next.
If somebody else pointed the camera
You do not need to be a user of anything to ask about footage you appear in. Write in, and we will deal with it on what it deserves, without making you prove a relationship with whoever uploaded it beyond enough for us to be satisfied the request is real.
If our answer is not good enough
Take it over our heads. The OAIC handles privacy complaints about Australian organisations through oaic.gov.au and on 1300 363 992. It costs nothing, a lawyer is not required, and our consent is beside the point. The regulator will usually want to see that you raised it here first and gave us a month to sort it out.
